Recruitment is the process of attracting, screening, interviewing, and selecting candidates for an open role in an organization. It can also include hiring and onboarding the chosen candidates. Outsourcing is an agreement in which one company hires another company to be responsible for a planned or existing activity that is or could be done internally, and sometimes involves transferring employees and assets from one firm to another.

Outsourcing can also involve allowing another company or individual to handle non-essential business tasks either at the front office or back office. The technical term used for this is business process outsourcing (BPO), as it involves only the business processes.

When recruitment of a company is handled by a third-party recruitment agency as an extension of the HR department, it is termed as recruitment process outsourcing” (RPO). In RPO, the recruitment process is taken over by the recruitment agency. However, in BPO, only a component of the recruitment process or a section of the organizational corporate processes is taken over by the company.

In choosing an ideal RPO provider, it is important to pick a company that understands your corporate culture so that their recruitment solutions will be in synch with your corporate values, organizational culture, and strategic direction.

Both RPO and BPO have the ultimate aim of enhancing business efficiency. RPO provides your outfit with the right talents to grow your business, whilst BPO provides you with the peace of mind to concentrate on what you do best.

RPOs are often recommended for global agencies, especially those undergoing relocations, mergers or acquisitions. In such instances, there would be a need for multiple hires to be secured within the shortest possible time and RPO is the best solution.

According to Michale Page:

The RPO is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Far from it. A good provider should take the time to understand and assess each client’s specific needs and offer a solution tailored to meet them. They should suggest approaches, technologies, cost-saving efficiencies, and process enhancements that will help the client to achieve their recruitment goals.
